Northwest African American Museum

The "Our Journey" exhibit at the Northwest African American Museum follows African American
history in the northwestern United States during the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries.

The "Our Journey" exhibit at the Northwest African American Museum in Seattle, WA, chronicles African American history in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Montana over the past three centuries. Highlighted in the exhibit are the movements and industries that mobilized the region's African American population and continue to define its regional identity.

A timeline in the exhibit uses census records to demonstrate the growth of African American communities during the Pacific Northwest's early exploration and pioneering days, the Great Migration, World War II, and the Civil Rights Movement. Census data illustrate more recent changes in the region's African American population as a result of immigration and expansion of the technology sector.
