"Income is up or holding steady in every state in the nation.  Between 2015 and 2016, increases in median household income ranged from 1.2 percent in Pennsylvania to 6.3 percent in Idaho. Maryland and the District of Columbia were among the states with the highest median household incomes for 2016: at $78,945 and $75,506 respectively."

"Between 2015 and 2016, five states (California, Connecticut, Florida, Louisiana and New York), and the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico had Gini indexes higher than the U.S. index of 0.482. Additionally, while most states experienced no statistical change in income inequality as measured by the Gini index – Louisiana, West Virginia and Wisconsin saw an increase. Alaska and Massachusetts saw a decrease."

"Poverty rates declined in 24 states between 2015 and 2016. The states with some of the lowest poverty rates were Alaska, Connecticut, Hawaii, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, North Dakota and Utah. The poverty rates for Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi and New Mexico were among the highest, only Vermont showed an increase between 2015 and 2016 from 10.2 percent to 11.9 percent. The poverty rate decreased in 17 of the 25 most populous metropolitan areas between 2015 and 2016."

"In 2016, the health insurance coverage rate for the population living inside metropolitan areas was 91.6 percent. The Boston metropolitan area had the highest health insurance coverage rate at 97.2 percent. Between 2015 and 2016, the percentage of people covered by health insurance increased in 19 of the 25 most populous metropolitan areas."

"New language data is now available for Haitian, Punjabi, Bengali, Telugu and Tamil. They previously fell under “French Creole,” “Other Indic languages” and “Other Asian languages” categories. Languages are grouped in the data tool, American Factfinder. It tabulates based on the top 42 language categories."

"Nuevos datos sobre idioma ya están disponibles para haitiano, punyabí, bengalí, telugu y tamil.  Anteriormente pertenecían a las categorías "criollo francés", "Otros idiomas indígenas" y "Otros idiomas asiáticos".  Los idiomas están agrupados en American Factfinder en lo cual se puede tabular idiomas basados en 42 categorías lingüísticas."

Speaking Another Language Other Than English At Home

"More people are speaking a language other than English at home according to new Census data. The percentage of the nation’s population age 5 and older speaking a language other than English at home increased from 21.5 percent in 2015 to 21.6 percent in 2016. Spanish was by far the largest non-English language spoken at home by 40.5 million people or 13.3 percent of the population age 5 and older.   It was followed by Chinese with 3.4 million speakers at home and Tagalog with 1.7 million speakers at home."

"Más personas están hablando un idioma que no sea el inglés en casa según nuevos datos de la Oficina del Censo.  El porcentaje de la población de la nación de 5 años o más de edad que habla un idioma que no sea inglés en casa aumentó de 21.5 por ciento en 2015 a 21.6 por ciento en 2016.  El español fue el idioma más frecuentemente hablado en casa por 40.5 millones de personas o 13.3 por ciento de la población de 5 años o más de edad.  Fue seguido por chino con 3.4 millones y tagalo con 1.7 millones."
