Kurt Bauman is the chief of the Education and Social Stratification Branch in the Social, Economic, and Housing Statistics Division of the U.S. Census Bureau. He has worked as an analyst at the Census Bureau for 20 years.

Bauman’s work has touched on trends in language use, education, voting and the measurement of material hardship in households. He has produced more than a dozen Census Bureau reports and peer-reviewed research publications.

Prior to coming to the Census Bureau, Bauman worked as a research analyst in the Wisconsin state government, a postdoctoral researcher at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and a visiting professor at American University.
