2024 South Florida Floods

The National Weather Service estimates that from Tuesday, June 11, 2024, through Wednesday, June 12, 2024, about 20 inches (50 centimeters) of rain deluged the hardest-hit spots, including Hallandale Beach and Hollywood, both near Fort Lauderdale, and roughly the same amount in North Miami.

In 2023, the Monthly Building Permit Survey found that 922 buildings were authorized for 3,002 new residential units in Broward County.

In Collier County, Florida there are 95,565 people that are potentially socially vulnerable to disasters. This is approximately 24.1 percent of the population. There are 109 neighborhoods (census tracts) in Collier County, Florida. Of those neighborhoods 19 have a larger percentage of the population that is vulnerable to disasters than the national average.

There were 13,545 business establishments in Collier County, according to the 2021 County Business Patterns. The 2021 Nonemployer Statistics show there were 50,774 self-employed businesses. There were 9,523 applications for new businesses in Collier County in 2022, according to the Business Formation Statistics. In 2023, the Monthly Building Permit Survey found that 3,153 buildings were authorized for 3,891 new residential units in Collier County.

There were 127,895 applications for new businesses in Miami-Dade County in 2022, according to the Business Formation Statistics. In 2023, the Monthly Building Permit Survey found that 1,831 buildings were authorized for 13,587 new residential units in Miami-Dade County.

There were 15,198 business establishments in Sarasota County, according to the 2021 County Business Patterns. The 2021 Nonemployer Statistics show there were 50,226 self-employed businesses. There were 9,705 applications for new businesses in Sarasota County in 2022, according to the Business Formation Statistics. In 2023, the Monthly Building Permit Survey found that 4,826 buildings were authorized for 7,102 new residential units in Sarasota County.
