The Advance Economic Indicators Report provides advance statistics for U.S. International Trade in Goods, domestic retail inventories, and domestic wholesale inventories.


Advance Monthly Sales for Retail and Food Services
Provides an early indication of sales of retail and food service companies.


Annual Business Survey (ABS) Program
Provides annual data on select economic and demographic characteristics of employer businesses, including annual R&D estimates.


Annual Capital Expenditures Survey (ACES)
Provides estimates on business spending for new and used structures and equipment.


Annual Integrated Economic Survey (AIES)
The Annual Integrated Economic Survey (AIES) is a re-engineered survey designed to integrate and replace seven existing annual business surveys into a streamlined single survey instrument. The AIES will provide key yearly measures of economic activity including the only comprehensive national and subnational data on business revenues, expenses, and assets on an annual basis.


Annual Retail Trade Survey (ARTS)
The Annual Retail Trade Survey (ARTS) produces industry-level estimates of sales, expenses, and other items for the retail sector in the U.S. each year.


Annual Survey of Manufactures (ASM)
To provide key intercensal measures of manufacturing activity, products, and location for public and private sector use.


Annual Survey of Public Employment & Payroll (ASPEP)
Provides state and local government data on full-time and part-time employment, part-time hours worked, full-time equivalent employment, and payroll statistics.


Annual Survey of Public Pensions (ASPP)
The Survey of Public Pensions provides revenues, expenditures, financial assets, and membership information for the defined benefit public pensions.


Annual Survey of School System Finances
Provides statistics about the finances of elementary and secondary public school systems.


Annual Survey of State Government Finances
State Government Finances provides a comprehensive summary of annual survey findings for state governments.


Annual Survey of State Government Tax Collections (STC)
The STC provides a summary of taxes collected by state for 5 broad tax categories and up to 25 tax subcategories.


Annual Survey of State and Local Government Finances
Statistics on revenue, expenditure, debt, and assets (cash and security holdings) for governments.


Annual Wholesale Trade Survey (AWTS)
AWTS is conducted every year to provide detailed industry measures of sales, inventories, operational expenses and purchases for wholesale trade activities.


Building Permits Survey (BPS)
The purpose of the Building Permits Survey is to provide national, state, and local statistics on new privately-owned residential construction.


Business Dynamics Statistics (BDS)
Tabulations of establishment openings/closings, firm startups/shutdowns, and job creation/destruction, with unique information on firm age and firm size.


Business Enterprise Research and Development Survey (BERD)
Provides detailed statistics on global and domestic R&D expenses of U.S. based companies and statistics on R&D workforce, IP and technology transfer activities.


Business Expenses Supplement (BES)
Data for the BES are collected as a supplement to the Annual Surveys of Retail Trade (including Accommodation and Food Services), and Wholesale Trade.


Business Formation Statistics
Business Formation Statistics (BFS) are a standard data product of the U.S. Census Bureau developed in research collaboration with economists affiliated with Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, University of Maryland, and University of Notre Dame. BFS provide timely and high frequency information on new business applications and formations in the United States.

Provides insights with timely, high frequency data across all nonfarm sectors of the economy.


Business and Professional Classification Survey
Obtains information necessary to identify and classify businesses to update the samples for current business surveys and the Economic Census.


Capital Expenditures for Robotic Equipment
Beginning with the 2018 Annual Capital Expenditures Survey, capital expenditures for robotic equipment were collected to fill a data gap in response to growing interest and high demand by researchers and congress, etc. on measuring robotics as part of official government statistics.


Census of Governments
Identifies the scope and nature of the nation's state and local government sector including public finance and public employment and classifications.


Center for Economic Studies (CES)
CES partners with stakeholders to improve measures of the economy and people of the United States through research and development of innovative data products.


Characteristics of New Housing
This page provides national, annual data on the characteristics of new privately-owned residential structures, such as square footage, number of bedrooms and bathrooms, type of wall material, and sales prices. Many characteristics are available at the region level. The data are from the Survey of Construction (SOC), which is partially funded by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).


Commodity Flow Survey (CFS)
CFS is a joint project of Census and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics producing data on the movement of goods in the United States.

Construction Spending also known as the Value of Construction Put in Place Survey (VIP)
The Value of Construction Put in Place Survey (VIP) provides monthly estimates of the total dollar value of construction work done in the U.S.


County Business Patterns (CBP)
Provides subnational economic data by industry, including the number of establishments, employment, first quarter payroll, and annual payroll.


Dispersion Statistics on Productivity (DiSP)
Dispersion Statistics on Productivity (DiSP) is an experimental data product jointly developed and published by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) and the Census Bureau.


E-Commerce Statistics (E-STATS)
Provides e-commerce statistics for manufacturing, merchant wholesale trade, retail trade, and selected service industries.


Economic Census
The Economic Census is the official five-year measure of American businesses providing comprehensive statistics at the national, state, and local levels. Follow the 2022 Economic Census release schedule for additional information.


Economic Census 2021 Industry Classification Report
The Economic Census Industry Classification report is used to determine a NAICS code for single-unit establishments.


Economic Census of Island Areas
Provides detailed information on employer businesses, including detailed data by industry and geography for American Samoa, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.


Experimental Data Product
Experimental Business Dynamics Statistics (EXP-BDS)
A suite of experimental business dynamics statistics created from new data linkages in the Longitudinal Business Database (LBD) infrastructure.


Exports from Manufacturing Establishments
Provides estimates for the value of manufactured exports and related employment.


Government Units Survey (GUS)
The GUS collects current information to update the universe of county, municipal, township, special district, and school district governments.


International Trade Program
The official U.S. import and export statistics reflect both government and nongovernment shipments of merchandise between foreign countries and the U.S.

Job-to-Job Flows (J2J) is a set of statistics on job mobility in the United States.


Justice Assistance Data Survey
This direct survey of governments collects detailed justice expenditure data. These data are the basis for calculating variable pass-through estimates needed to distribute the formula funds of the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (Byrne JAG) Program administered by the Bureau of Justice Assistance.


Justice Expenditures and Employment in the United States
This report presents estimates of government expenditures and employment for police protection, all judicial and legal functions (including prosecution, courts, and public defense), and corrections.


LEHD Origin-Destination Employment Statistics (LODES)
LEHD Origin-Destination Employment Statistics (LODES) used by OnTheMap are available. Version 7 of LODES was enumerated by 2010 census blocks. Previous versions of LODES were enumerated with 2000 census blocks.


Longitudinal Employer-Household Dynamics

Provides monthly estimates on current economic conditions and indications of future production commitments in the manufacturing sector.


Manufacturers' Unfilled Orders (M3UFO) Survey
M3UFO information is used benchmark the new and unfilled orders information published in the monthly Manufacturers' Shipments, Inventories, and Orders (M3) Survey, which is an economic indicator survey based on a panel of domestic manufacturers.


Manufacturing Energy Consumption Survey (MECS)
Provides estimates on energy consumption in the manufacturing sector.

Data on the presence of robots, workers exposed to robots, capital expenditures for industrial robotic equipment, and plant size distributional statistics.


Medical Expenditure Panel Survey (MEPS)
Provides estimates on private and public sector employer-sponsored health insurance coverage.


Monthly Real Dollar Estimates of Wholesale Sales
To provide month-to-month trends for sales and inventories of U.S. merchant wholesalers, excluding manufacturers' sales branches and offices (MSBOs).


Monthly Retail Trade
The Advance Monthly and Monthly Retail Trade Surveys (MARTS and MRTS), the Annual Retail Trade Survey (ARTS), and the Quarterly E-Commerce Report work together to produce the most comprehensive data available on retail economic activity in the United States.


Monthly State Retail Sales
The Monthly State Retail Sales (MSRS) is the Census Bureau's new experimental data product featuring modeled state-level retail sales. This is a blended data product using Monthly Retail Trade Survey data, administrative data, and third-party data.


Monthly Wholesale Trade Survey (MWTS)
Provides monthly estimates of sales and inventories of wholesale trade industries.


New Residential Construction
This page provides national and regional data on the number of new housing units authorized by building permits; authorized, but not started; started; under construction; and completed.


New Residential Sales
This page provides national and regional data on the number of new single-family houses sold and for sale. It also provides national data on median and average prices, the number of houses sold and for sale by stage of construction, and other statistics.


Nonemployer Statistics
An annual series that provides subnational economic data for businesses that have no paid employees and are subject to federal income tax.


Nonemployer Statistics by Demographics series (NES-D)
The Nonemployer Statistics by Demographics series (NES-D) provides information on the demographic characteristics of nonemployer businesses. The NES-D is the result of a research project by the Census Bureau to complete the picture of U.S. business ownership by demographics for the United States.

Provides quarterly estimates of retail E-commerce.


Quarterly Services Survey (QSS)
The Quarterly Services Survey (QSS) is the only source of service industry indicator performance providing timely estimates of revenue and expenses for selected service industries.


Quarterly Summary of State & Local Tax Revenue (QTAX)
The Quarterly Summary of State and Local Government Tax Revenue provides quarterly estimates of state and local government tax revenue at a national level.


Quarterly Survey of Plant Capacity Utilization (QPC)
Provides quarterly estimates on the rates of capacity utilization for the U.S. manufacturing and publishing sectors.


Quarterly Survey of Public Pensions (QSPP)
Provides national summary data on the revenues, expenditures, and composition of assets of the largest defined benefit public employee retirement systems.


Quarterly Workforce Indicators (QWI)
The Quarterly Workforce Indicators (QWI) are a set of economic indicators including employment, job creation, earnings, and other measures of employment flows.


Rental Housing Finance Survey (RHFS)
Provides current and continuous measures of financial, mortgage and property characteristics of multifamily rental housing properties in the United States.


Report of Organization
Collects information on current organization and operating information on multi-establishment firms in order to maintain the Business Register (BR).

The Monthly State Tax Collections is the new monthly measure of state government tax collections for selected taxes.

Provides estimates of revenue and other measures for most traditional service industries.


Small Business Lending Survey
The Small Business Lending Survey is a nationally representative survey that asks banks about their small business lending practices and volumes.


Statistics of U.S. Businesses (SUSB)
Provides detailed annual data for U.S. business establishments by geography, industry, and enterprise size.


Survey of Construction
The purpose of the Survey of Construction is to provide current national and regional statistics on starts, completions, and characteristics of new, privately-owned single-family and multifamily housing units and on sales of new single-family houses.


Survey of State Government Research and Development (SGRD)
Measures the extent of R&D activity performed and funded by the governments of each of the nation’s 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico.


Vehicle Inventory and Use Survey (VIUS)
VIUS is conducted in partnership with the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS), Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), to better understand the characterstics and use of trucks on our nation's roads.


Veteran Employment Outcomes (VEO)
Veteran Employment Outcomes (VEO) are new experimental U.S. Census Bureau statistics on labor market outcomes for recently discharged Army veterans.
