Students will learn facts about their state and assemble their own state data wheel. They will explore student-friendly statistics from the Census Bureau using an online data tool, State Facts for Students where they can learn about how people get to work, the number of kids their age and businesses like amusement parks and toy stores in their state. They will use what they learned from the tool to fill out the data wheel and then color their own designs.
Materials Required:
• Crayons, Colored Pencils or Markers
• Scissors
• Construction Paper or Cardstock
• Student Worksheet
• Glue or Glue Stick
• Brad Paper Fastener
• Ink Pen
Resources Required:
• Printer and Paper
• Teacher’s computer with Internet access and a projector to display the State Facts for Students web site. A computer with Internet access for each student is optional.
Approximate Time Required: 45-60 Minutes
Help students learn about their state as they collect, organize, analyze, map, and graph a variety of information in “State Facts for Students.” They can examine data about kids their age, as well as a variety of other facts selected to appeal to young students.
