September 17 is Constitution Day. Did you know there’s a link between the U.S. Constitution and the Census Bureau? The U.S. Constitution mandates the Census Bureau to conduct a count of the nation’s population every 10 years. September 28 is Voter Registration Day! This special observance helps bring awareness to voter registration opportunities to prepare your students and future voters for upcoming elections. Our Voting Trends in America elementary history activity is a great way to show students the percentages of people (by race, age, sex, region, and education) who voted in elections between 1964 and 2020.

This day is a great opportunity to nourish relationships with neighbors and teach younger students about their community. Our elementary school geography activity, Getting to Know Your Neighbor, has young students use demographic characteristics to create population pyramids and review older data to find changes and trends over time. Skills taught include analyzing data, comparing and contrasting, and using demographic characteristics to describe a population.
