The SAIPE program does not produce estimates for Puerto Rico given the lack of sufficient available auxiliary data. Instead, direct survey estimates are provided to meet the needs of the Department of Education relating to the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, as reauthorized. Beginning with the 2004 estimates, the number of related children ages 5-17 in families in poverty in Puerto Rico are derived from published results of the Puerto Rico Community Survey. Documentation for the poverty estimates for Puerto Rico is available from the American Community Survey. The total and child population estimates continue to come from our Population division.
