Below is a brief summary of revisions for countries experiencing more than a 500,000 change from the previously estimated 2018 population.

The estimated population of Burkina Faso in 2018 is 19.7 million, which is about 1 million (4.7 percent) less than our previous estimate.  The decrease is due to lower estimates of fertility and higher estimates of out-migration.

The estimated population of Chad in 2018 is 15.8 million, which is about 3.5 million (28.7 percent) more than our previous estimate. This increase results from higher estimates of fertility, lower estimates of mortality, and increased estimates of in-migration.

The estimated population of Cote d’Ivoire in 2018 is 26.3 million, which is about 1.6 million (6.6 percent) more than our previous estimate.  The increase is due to higher estimates of fertility and higher estimates of in- migration.

The estimated population of Dominican Republic in 2018 is 10.3 million, which is about 600 thousand (5.2 percent) lower than our previous estimate.  The decrease is due to higher estimates of mortality and slightly higher estimates of out-migration.

The estimated population of Guatemala in 2018 is 16.6 million, about 900 thousand (5.4 percent) greater than our previous estimate.  The increase is due to lower estimates of out-migration and higher estimates of fertility.

The estimated population of Guinea in 2018 is 11.9 million, which is about 900 thousand (7.0 percent) less than our previous estimate.  The decrease is due to higher estimates of mortality and slightly lower estimates of fertility.

The estimated population of Nigeria in 2018 is 203.5 million, which is about 8.2 million (4.2 percent) higher than our previous estimate.  The increase is due to lower estimates of mortality, which outweigh the impact of lower estimates of fertility and increased out-migration, both of which work to decrease the population.

The estimated population of Saudi Arabia in 2018 is 33.1 million, which is about 4.1 million (14.2 percent) higher than our previous estimate.  The increase is largely due to higher estimates of in-migration, although slightly higher fertility estimates and lower mortality estimates also contributed to the increase.

The estimated population of South Sudan in 2018 is 10.2 million, which is about 3.3 million (24.6 percent) lower than our previous estimate.  The decrease is due to higher estimates of out-migration and higher estimates of mortality, which together outweigh higher estimates of fertility (which works to increase the population).

The estimated population of Sudan in 2018 is 43.1 million, about 5.2 million (13.6 percent) greater than our previous estimate.  The increase is largely due to higher estimates of both in-migration and fertility, with slightly lower mortality estimates also contributing to population growth.

The estimated population of the United Arab Emirates in 2018 is 9.7 million, which is about 3.5 million (56.1 percent) higher than our previous estimate.  The increase is due to far higher estimates of in-migration, which outweighs the impact of lower estimated fertility.
