International Database Errata

  • The following errors were present in the IDB from December 2021 (or earlier) to July 2023:
    • Colombia had erroneous data for numerous variables for the years 1973-1992.
    • Congo (Kinshasa) had incorrect data for numerous variables for the years 1994 and 1997.
    • France included the population counts and other demographic characteristics of the overseas territories of St. Barthelemy and St. Martin in all variables. These two areas are listed separately in the IDB and should not have been calculated with France.
    • Montserrat had incorrect net international migration rates for the years 1998 and 2000.
    • Peru had erroneous data for numerous variables for the years 1981-1992.
    • Rwanda had an incorrect crude death rate (CDR) for the year 1994.
  • From September 2018 to December 2020, the total population for Malta was incorrect for the years 1989-1994. This error was corrected on December 15, 2020.
  • Between December 19, 2013, and October 21, 2014, the December 2013 Release Notes and the country source information for Estonia indicated an update of data for that country. However, the data for Estonia were not updated in the December 2013 release. As of October 21, 2014, both the Release Notes and source information have been edited to reflect the fact that data for Estonia were not updated. New estimates and projections for Estonia were updated on the IDB in July 2015.
  • Data for Guyana and Nigeria posted on the IDB in June 2009 and June 2011, respectively, incorrectly incorporated the effect of HIV/AIDS on the populations of those countries. The data posted for Guyana and Nigeria as of December 19, 2013 correctly incorporate the effect of HIV/AIDS.
  • The data for Thailand posted in June 2010 on the IDB did not show the impact of HIV/AIDS on the population. The data posted for Thailand as of December 28, 2010 incorporate the impact of HIV/AIDS on the population.
  • In the version of the IDB prior to June 28, 2010, there was an error in the output of infant deaths by sex from the Region tab for the table "Life Expectancy, Infant Mortality Rate, and Infant Deaths." The figures for male infant deaths were shown under the label "Infant Deaths: Female" and vice versa. This happened when either 1) countries were requested from the Regions tab or 2) regions were requested and the individual country data were downloaded through the Excel or CSV download. This problem has been corrected as of June 28, 2010.
