Census 2000 Block Maps File Naming Conventions

American Indian, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian Areas

The file names for the American Indian, Alaska Native, or Native Hawaiian Areas-based 2000 Census Block Maps are composed as follows:

CBN<code>_<###>.pdf

where:

<code> is the 4 digit AIAN FIPS code
<###> is the map sheet number:
- Index sheets are numbered '000'.
- Parent sheets are numbered '001' through '999'.
- Inset sheets are numbered 'A01' through 'Z99'.

Consolidated City

The file names for the consolidated city-based 2000 Census Block Maps are composed as follows:

CBD<SS><FFFFF>_<###>.pdf

where:

<SS> = 2 digit state FIPS code
<FFFFFF> = 5 digit consolidated city FIPS code
<###> is the map sheet number:
- Index sheets are numbered '000'.
- Parent sheets are numbered '001' through '999'.
- Inset sheets are numbered 'A01' through 'Z99'.

County or County Equivalent

The file names for the county-based 2000 Census Block Maps are composed as follows:

The file names for the place-based 2000 Census Block Maps are composed as follows:

Census 2000 Census Tract Outline Maps File Naming Convention

CT<SS><CCC>_<###>.pdf

<SS> is the 2 digit state FIPS code,
<CCC> is the 3 digit county FIPS code
<###> is the map sheet number.
- Index sheets are numbered '000'.
- Parent sheets are numbered '001' through '999'.
- Inset sheets are numbered 'A01' through 'Z99'.

Census 2000 Urbanized Area Outline Maps File Naming Conventions

Where 'UUUUU' represents the 5-digit urban area code and '##' represents the map sheet number.

Urbanized Area: uaUUUUU (e.g. ua00199/)
Individual PDF file: uaUUUUU_##.pdf (e.g. ua00199_01.pdf)

In the case of the Puerto Rico UAs, a Spanish version of each map file is provided in addition to the standard English version. For these maps, the UA directory name is followed by '_sp', and the naming convention for the map files is 'uaUUUUU_##_sp.pdf', in order to differentiate these maps from the standard English version.

Census 2000 Urban Cluster Outline Maps File Naming Conventions

Where 'UUUUU' represents the 5-digit urban area code and '##' represents the map sheet number.

Urban Cluster: ucUUUUU (e.g. uc00199/)
Individual PDF file: ucUUUUU_##.pdf (e.g. uc00199_01.pdf)

In the case of the Puerto Rico UCs, a Spanish version of each map file is provided in addition to the standard English version. For these maps, the UC name is followed by (Sp), and the naming convention for the map files is 'ucUUUUU_##_sp.pdf', in order to differentiate these maps from the standard English version.

P.L. 94-171 County Block Maps (Census 2000) File Naming Convention

PB<SS><CCC>_<###>.pdf

<SS> is the 2 digit state FIPS code,
<CCC> is the 3 digit county FIPS code
<###> is the map sheet number.
- Index sheets are numbered '000'.
- Parent sheets are numbered '001' through '999'.
- Inset sheets are numbered 'A01' through 'Z99'.

P.L. 94-171 Voting District/State Legislative District Reference Maps (Census 2000) File Naming Convention

The file names for the P.L. 94-171 Voting District/State Legislative District Reference Maps are composed as follows:

PV<SS><CCC>_<###>.pdf where:

<SS> is the 2 digit state FIPS code,
<CCC> is the 3 digit county FIPS code
<###> is the map sheet number.
- Index sheets are numbered '000'.
- Parent sheets are numbered '001' through '999'.
- Inset sheets are numbered 'A01' through 'Z99'.
