New Tables

Computer and Internet

• Detailed Table B28012 provides estimates of computer ownership and internet subscription for the household population.  For the population aged 3 and over, it further breaks down individuals by enrollment status and grade enrolled.

Housing

• Two new Detailed Tables provide additional estimates for vacant housing units. Detailed Table B25130 provides a more detailed breakdown of the “Other vacant” category found in Detailed Table B25004. Detailed Table B25131 provides estimates on how long a housing unit has been vacant.
• Four new Detailed Tables provide distributions of utility costs for occupied housing units. Monthly costs for electricity and gas can be found in Detailed Tables B25132 and B25133. Annual costs for water and sewer and other house heating fuels can be found in Detailed Tables B25134 and B25135.

Industry

• Three new Detailed Tables provide estimates for detailed industry. Table B24134 provides estimates for the civilian employed population 16 years and over.  Table B24135 shows these estimates for the civilian employed male population 16 years and over and Table B24136 for the civilian employed female population 16 years and over.  These tables are published at the national level only. 

Poverty

• New table B17101 shows the total number of people in households for whom poverty status is determined, the number of people in households whose income is below poverty level, and the number of people in household whose income is at or above the poverty level.

Modified Tables

Employment

• The row label, universe, and denominator for line 2 of Table S2302 was changed from "Married-couple families" to "Opposite-sex married-couple families." Also, the percent estimate denominators for lines 3-6 of Table S2302 were changed from "Married-couple families" to "Opposite-sex married-couple families." These changes were made to make the estimates more clear, to allow the estimates in lines 3-6 to add to the subtotal in line 2, and to make the percent estimates in lines 3-6 appropriate for this section of the table.

Foreign-Born Population

• The nativity of parent tabulation was corrected to include same-sex spouses. This change affects Tables B05009 and B05010.
• In Detailed Table B05006, the order of place of birth rows was updated for Northern Europe and Eastern Europe.
• In Detailed Table B05006PR, the order of place of birth rows was updated for Central America.

Hispanic origin

• Revised codes were used to create Hispanic origin categories for Detailed Tables B03001, B03002, and B03003. Revised codes were also used in Data Profile DP05 and Comparison Profile CP05.
  • Detailed Tables for all other topics that are iterated by Hispanic origin, for example tables B01001H and B01001I, were also updated to use the revised codes.

Households and Families

• Row labels were changed from “own children” to “children” affecting the following tables: B11012, CP02, CP02PR, DP02, DP02PR.
  • “Children” includes all biological, adopted, or stepchildren of the householder under 18, regardless of marital status, while the formerly used “own children” excluded ever married children under 18.
• A new line has been added to S1101 to show Households with one or more people 65 years and over.

Housing

• The method for inflation adjusting median dollar amounts for previous years in the comparison profile tables changed. Data users should now be able to closely match the estimates by inflation-adjusting previous year estimates using the Consumer Price Index Research Series (CPI-U-RS). The rows impacted in CP04 include median owner costs for mortgaged units, median owner costs for non-mortgaged units and median gross rent.

Income

• The method for inflation adjusting median dollar amounts for previous years in the comparison profile tables changed. Data users should now be able to closely match the estimates by inflation-adjusting previous year estimates using the Consumer Price Index Research Series (CPI-U-RS). The rows impacted in CP03 include Median household income, Median family income, Median nonfamily income, Median earnings for workers, Median earnings for male full-time year-round workers, and Median earnings for female full-time year-round workers.

Journey to Work and Migration

• The following tables were updated to include total mover rate: DP02, DP02PR, CP02, CP02PR.

Marital Status

• A new line has been added to S1201 to show the ratio of unmarried men 15 to 44 years per 100 unmarried women 15 to 44 years.

Mortgage Status

• Changes were made to allow those without a mortgage to have a home equity loan. Row labels in B25081 were changed from “No second mortgage and no home equity loan” to “Housing units with no second mortgage and no home equity loan,” “Home equity loan only” to “Mortgage, with only home equity loan,” and “Second mortgage only” to “Mortgage, with only second mortgage.” A row was added to B25081 for “Housing units with only a home equity loan.”
• A row label and estimates in S2506 were changed from “With either a second mortgage or home equity loan, but not both” to “With a mortgage and either a second mortgage or home equity loan.” A row was added to S2506 for “Home equity loan only without a primary mortgage.” Row labels for "Second mortgage only" and "Home equity loan only" were updated to "Only Second mortgage" and "Only Home equity loan," respectively. 

Poverty

• A new line was added to S1701 to show poverty status for households.

Race

• Tables B02016, B02019, DP05, and CP05 were modified to change “Guamanian or Chamorro” to “Chamorro.”
• Revised codes were used to create race categories for Detailed Tables B02001, B02003, B02008, B02009, B02010, B02011, B02012, B02013, B02014, B02015, B02016, B02017, B02018, B02019, C02003, C02014, C02015, and C02016. Revised codes were also used in Data Profile DP05 and Comparison Profile CP05.
  • Detailed Tables for all other topics that are iterated by race, for example tables B01001A, B01001B, and so forth, were also updated to use the revised codes.

Year Householder Moved In

• Changes were made to the top end of the distribution for Year Householder Moved into Unit. The top two categories were changed from “Moved in 2017 or later” and “Moved in 2015 to 2016” to “Moved in 2019 or later” and “Moved in 2015 to 2018” to better capture recent movers, whose unique characteristics can be useful for housing analysis.
  • Detailed Tables modified that include these changes are: B25026, B25038, B25109, B25110, B25113, B25114, and B25128.
  • Other modified tables include DP04, CP04, and S2502.

Year Structure Built

• Changes were made to the top end of the distribution for Year Structure Built. The top two categories were changed from “Built 2014 or later” and “Built 2010 to 2013” to “Built 2020 or later” and “Built 2010 to 2019” to better capture the newer housing units built sector, whose characteristics can be useful for housing analysis.
  • Detailed Tables modified that include these changes are: B25034, B25036, B25107, B25108, B25111, B25112, and B25126.
  • Detailed Table B25127 was updated from “Built 2010 or later” and “Built 2000 to 2009” to “Built 2020 or later” and “Built 2000 to 2019.”
  • Other modified tables include DP04, CP04, S0201, S0201PR, and S2504.
