2009-2013 ACS 5-year PUMS files released

The 2009-2013 ACS 5-year PUMS files are now available in American FactFinder and DataFerrett. Additional PUMS documentation is also available on the ACS website.

Spanish version of Puerto Rico Community Survey released

The 1-year, 3-year, and 5-year Spanish version of the Puerto Rico Community Survey is now available on American FactFinder for the 2013 data releases.

2009-2013 ACS 5-year estimates and 2011-2013 ACS 3-year PUMS files released December 4th

• 2009-2013 ACS 5-year estimates are available in American FactFinder.
• These estimates are based on data collected from January 1, 2009 to December 31, 2013.
• These estimates are available for geographic areas down to the census tract and block group level.
• 2011-2013 ACS 3-year PUMS files are also available in American FactFinder and DataFerrett.

Block group estimates now available in American FactFinder

Block group estimates are now available for the first time in American FactFinder, as well as the ACS Summary File. We created instructions on how to access block groups in American FactFinder [PDF - <1.0 MB] to assist data users.

2009-2013 ACS 5-year Narrative Profiles available

2009-2013 ACS 5-year Narrative Profiles are available for state, county, place, metropolitan/micropolitan statistical area, ZIP Code Tabulation Area, American Indian Area/Alaska Native Area/Hawaiian Home Land and census tract. Narrative Profiles summarize many topics using nontechnical text and graphs.

Census Explorer’s Young Adults: Then and Now available

Census Explorer’s Young Adults: Then and Now interactive mapping tool looks at young adults ages 18-34 and lets you decide if today’s “Millennials” are that different from previous generations. The application allows users to map 14 different demographic, social, economic and housing characteristics of their state, county, metropolitan/micropolitan statistical area, or census tract, and see how these areas have changed using the 1980, 1990, and 2000 censuses and the 2009-2013 ACS 5-year estimates.

Additional materials released for ACS Summary File and ACS PUMS files

Additional materials have been released to help users with the release of the ACS Summary File. In addition, the PUMS ReadMe, Accuracy of the PUMS, and PUMS Estimates for User Verification have been released to help users with the release of the 2011-2013 ACS 3-year PUMS files.

New tables for the 2009-2013 ACS 5-year release

Select Summary File materials released

Supporting materials for the 2009-2013 ACS 5-year Summary File have been released, including the technical document appendices, table shells, and sequence number/table number lookup file. The 5-year Summary File on the FTP site and Summary File Retrieval Tool will be released on December 4, 2014.

Select PUMS materials released

Supporting PUMS documentation for the 2011-2013 ACS 3-year PUMS files has been released to help users prepare for the release, including the subjects, code lists, and data dictionary. Additional documentation will be released on December 4, 2014.

• These estimates are available for geographic areas with populations of 20,000 or more.
• 2013 ACS 1-year PUMS files are also available in American FactFinder and DataFerrett.

No 3-year reference maps

Due to resource constraints, reference maps for the 2011-2013 ACS 3-year data release will not be published. 2013 ACS 1-year reference maps are available.

2013 ACS 1-year estimates released September 18

• 2013 ACS 1-year estimates are available in American FactFinder.
• 2013 ACS 1-year estimates are based on data collected from January 1, 2013 to December 31, 2013.
• 2013 ACS 1-year estimates are available for geographic areas with populations of 65,000 or more.

Geography highlights

The 2013 ACS data release marks the first time estimates based on new Metropolitan and Micropolitan Statistical Areas (or Core Based Statistical Areas) are available. Learn more on the Geography page.

These Reference Maps highlight areas that will be published in the 2013 ACS 1-year data release.

Comparison guidance

Guidance on comparing the 2013 ACS 1-year estimates with Census 2000, 2012 ACS 1-year estimates, and 2010 Census by subject area is now available.

Summary file retrieval tool

The Summary File Retrieval Tool will not be available for the 2013 ACS 1-year data release as planned due to technical difficulties. You can still access the Summary File data using the FTP site. We are currently working to resolve these issues and will provide updates to the public concerning our progress when they are available.

ACS briefs

For the release of the 2013 ACS 1-year estimates, the Census Bureau produced reports for the American Community Survey Briefs series--short reports on specific topics based on newly released estimates.
