Patricia Moy is the Christy Cressey Professor of Communication and adjunct professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Washington. Her scholarship in political communication examines how information shapes public opinion, citizens’ social and institutional trust, and political behavior.
A former editor of Public Opinion Quarterly, Moy serves as editor-in-chief of Oxford Bibliographies in Communication. She is a former president of the American Association for Public Opinion Research (AAPOR), Midwest Association for Public Opinion Research (MAPOR), World Association for Public Opinion Research (WAPOR), and International Communication Association (ICA), where she is also an elected fellow.
Her work has been recognized by the Roper Center’s Mitofsky Award for Excellence in Public Opinion Research, the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication’s Krieghbaum Mid-Career Award and Eleanor Blum Distinguished Service to Research Award, and the David Swanson Award from the Political Communication Divisions of ICA and the American Political Science Association.
Since 2013, Moy has served as associate vice provost for academic and student affairs at the UW, collaborating with all three campuses to manage the institution’s accreditation process. She also serves as a commissioner for the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities. Moy earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Cornell University and her doctorate from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
