This paper reviews the proposals for revising the official poverty thresholds recommended by the NAS Panel. Applying most of the recommendations, poverty thresholds have been presented for the period of time from 1990 to 2000 in order to examine some of the assumptions made by the Panel in their recommendations and to observe behavior of these estimates over time. Overall, it would appear that the thresholds behave with a reasonable amount of stability and offer a viable alternative to the current official thresholds.
