On July 8, 2024, Hurricane Beryl struck the Gulf Coast of Texas, causing power outages and damage throughout the region. Disruptions to port activity in this region could affect billions of dollars of goods imported and exported annually. While mineral fuels, which includes petroleum and natural gas, is the highest value category of import and export, exports of mineral fuels are particularly concentrated through this region, with nearly 62% of total exported mineral fuels, worth $200B in 2023, leaving the U.S. through ports along the Texas Gulf Coast. These two figures show key products imported and exported through nine ports along the Texas Gulf Coast, highlighting products where this region holds particular national importance.
