Quarterly Retail E-Commerce Sales Report
The Census Bureau of the Department of Commerce announced today that the estimate of U.S. retail e-commerce sales for the fourth quarter of 2024, adjusted for seasonal variation, but not for price changes, was $308.9 billion, an increase of 2.7 percent (±0.9) from the third quarter of 2024. Total retail sales for the fourth quarter of 2024 were estimated at $1,883.3 billion, an increase of 1.8 percent (±0.4) from the third quarter of 2024. The fourth quarter 2024 e-commerce estimate increased 9.4 percent (±1.1) from the fourth quarter of 2023 while total retail sales increased 3.8 percent (±0.5) in the same period. E-commerce sales in the fourth quarter of 2024 accounted for 16.4 percent of total sales.
On a not adjusted basis, the estimate of U.S. retail e-commerce sales for the fourth quarter of 2024 totaled $352.9 billion, an increase of 22.1 percent (±0.9) from the third quarter of 2024. The fourth quarter 2024 e-commerce estimate increased 9.3 percent (±1.1) from the fourth quarter of 2023 while total retail sales increased 4.5 percent (±0.5) in the same period. E-commerce sales in the fourth quarter of 2024 accounted for 17.9 percent of total sales.
Total e-commerce sales for 2024 were estimated at 1,192.6 billion, an increase of 8.1 percent (±1.1) from 2023. Total retail sales in 2024 increased 2.8 percent (±0.4) from 2023. E-commerce sales in 2024 accounted for 16.1 percent of total sales. E-commerce sales in 2023 accounted for 15.3 percent of total sales.
