In April of 2014, the SOMA began using interviewing software on laptop computers to collect data for January 2014 completions. At the same time, the asking rent and selling cost ranges for residential buildings containing five or more units was revised. See https://www.census.gov/library/publications/2016/demo/2015-annual-absorptions.html for additional information pertaining to asking rent and selling cost range adjustments.
The SOMA adopted new weighting ratio estimation adjustments in 1990 to derive more accurate estimates of completions, with a modification in 1992 (see Estimation). Please use caution when comparing the number of completions in 1992 and following years with those in earlier years.
