Fascinating Old Census Map

Francis Amasa Walker, director of the Census Bureau in 1874, oversaw a huge expansion in the volume of information published by the office, including the Statistical Atlas of the United States. This national atlas showed expansion of settlement by plotting the westward intrusion of population density on maps from each census. The new maps are updated versions built with data that was pulled from a government websites.
