Celebrating with Appreciation, Honor and Thanks!

Spend the month showing appreciation, honor, and thanks as we recognize American Indian and Alaska Natives heritage, veterans, and Thanksgiving with Statistics in Schools resources. Discover the number of American Indian and Alaska Native owned businesses, veterans in your state, places with the name Turkey, and so much more!

American Indian and Alaska Native Month

Did you know that in 1990, President George H.W. Bush signed a joint congressional resolution designating November as National American Indian Heritage Month? It is now referred to as American Indian and Alaska Native Month.  Discover more about this observance by downloading our new American Indian and Alaska Native Fun Facts handout for students. In addition, we’ve prepared a teaching guide filled with cool activity ideas for every grade level.

Happy Veterans Day (November 11)

Let’s take a moment to pause and honor all veterans with the “5-Minute Challenge: Honoring Those Who Served” warm-up activity. How many veterans are there in your state and surrounding states? This is a good way to increase understanding of the diversity of veterans and demonstrates that veterans come from all over the nation.

Celebrating a Bountiful Harvest

It’s Thanksgiving!  In the fall of 1621, the pilgrims held a three-day feast to celebrate the harvest and the spirit of giving and sharing. Many think of this event as being the first thanksgiving. Keep the tradition going by making it an eat-and-learn feast. Find out which states raise the most turkeys, or the number of grocery stores and markets in the United States that sell food for the big feast. By downloading our Thanksgiving Day Fun Facts handout, you can share these data nuggets and more with students and their families this holiday
