For the 2019 SIPP, part of the residence editing process for Waves 2+ cases differs from the 2014 SIPP Panel Waves 2, 3, and 4. Beginning with the 2019 SIPP, the circumstances under which a new resident could be logically assigned to a residence with a returning respondent are less limited than they were in 2014 SIPP Panel Waves 2-4. New respondents in Waves 2+ are more likely to be logically assigned as living with a returning respondent in the 2019 SIPP and onward, compared to 2014 SIPP Panel Waves 2-4.
Data users comparing Wave 2+ residence data between the 2019 SIPP (and onward) and 2014 SIPP Panel Waves 2-4 should note potential effects of this update to the editing process. The 2018 SIPP only includes Wave 1 respondents, so it was not affected by this update to the residence editing process.
