SIPP collects detailed information about an individual’s work history for up to seven jobs during the reference period, which may be held concurrently. When an individual held more than seven jobs during the reference period, we attempted to gather summary information about these ‘Other Jobs’. This summary section’s information was used in calculating variables such as total monthly income for all jobs (TPEARN) and the employment status recodes (e.g., RMESR, RWKESR(i)). Despite having fewer than seven jobs during the reference period, some users incorrectly reported their wages in the ‘Other Jobs’ section; this mistake accounted for most individuals reporting in the ‘Other Jobs’ section. Because relatively few individuals reported ‘Other Jobs’, the ‘Other Jobs’ section has not been explicitly included in the public data in order to avoid disclosing confidential information. Consequently, data users will not be able to replicate recoded variables for the relatively few observations that incorporate or reference the ‘Other Jobs’ section. Refer to 4.2.3 of the SIPP 2018 Panel Users’ Guide for more detailed information on how employment data were collected.
