2014 Panel Wave 3: TPTOTINC, AFTOTINC, AHTOTINC, and AFTOTINCT2 Errors

The universe for TPTOTINC is people aged 15 and older and children under age 15 who received SSI payments. Children under age 15 who did not receive SSI payments should have a missing value for TPTOTINC because they are not in universe; however, in the 2014 Panel, children under age 15 who did not receive SSI payments were erroneously assigned a value of 0 for TPTOTINC. Data users should set TPTOTINC = missing when (TAGE_EHC < 15 and TSSI_AMT ≤ 0).

The status flags for total family income (AFTOTINC) and total household income (AHTOTINC) should always have a value of 9 which indicates the item is a recoded variable created using other variables in the data; however, in the 2014 Panel, some records were erroneously assigned a value of 0 for these status flags which indicates not in universe. Data users should set AFTOTINC = 9 and AHTOTINC = 9 for all person-months.

In the 2014 Panel, the status flag for total family income including Type 2 persons (AFTOTINCT2) should always have a value of 9 (in later years a value of 3 is possible); however, in Waves 3 and 4, some records were erroneously assigned a value of 8 for this status flag which indicates the item was imputed using a combination of imputation methods. Data users should set AFTOTINCT2 = 9 for all person-months.
