2014 Panel Wave 3: Change in Previous Tenure Status Imputation
In the 2014 Panel, some respondents with missing data were assigned a previous residence tenure status as owner. While assigning the status as owner reflects the distribution of present tenure status, assigning the status as renter better reflects the previous tenure status distribution. Because of this, this assignment was changed to renter as of 2018. As a result, since the 2014 Panel the percentage of renters may have increased and the percentage of owners may have decreased.
Data users computing estimates for previous tenure status from the 2014 Panel and 2018 SIPP data should note these differences. Caution should be used comparing these estimates between the 2014 Panel and the 2018 SIPP and later.
