Beginning in Wave 2 of the 2014 SIPP panel, answer choices for the reasons a respondent was uninsured were expanded slightly. For reasons not having direct purchase coverage, respondents could also indicate that they had another type of coverage (EYNOPRI_COV), and that they had missed an enrollment window (EYNOPRI_MIS). For reasons not having employer-sponsored health coverage, respondents could also indicate that it was too difficult or confusing to apply (EYNOESI_CON). These three variables are available in Waves 2, 3 and 4.
In Wave 1, the new variables related to direct purchase coverage (EYNOPRI_COV & EYNOPRI_MIS) were always set to 2 (No) since the questions were not asked.
