Data Label Error for Primary Nursing Position: Clinical Specialty
The Census Bureau identified a data label problem when using the 2018 NSSRN public use file’s STATA formatting program and the public use variable crosswalk to previous editions of the survey. For the variable “Primary Nursing Position: Clinical Specialty” (PN_CS_PUF), a value of 6 was labeled as “DERMATOLOGY” when the data value represented a response of “EMERGENCY OR TRAUMA CARE”. The remaining 2018 NSSRN public use SAS format, ASCII format, and documentation files available for download were not impacted by this issue.
As a result, the Census Bureau has revised the label for “EMERGENCY OR TRAUMA CARE” for “Primary Nursing Position: Clinical Specialty” in the following public use files:

· NSSRN_2018_PUF_STATA_FORMATS.do
Data users of both the public use and restricted use files should review research that contained this variable and was conducted prior to the date of this note’s posting.
