Nonemployer Statistics (NES) datasets are downloadable files in comma-separated value (CSV) format and provide data from 1997-present. NES data includes the number of businesses (with no paid employees) and total receipts. In addition, record layouts and reference files are available for each year.
The 2022 release incorporates significant methodological improvements which impacts historical comparability. Please exercise caution when comparing these data to prior releases. For more information see the Methodology Page.
