Congressional Districts
Congressional Districts
The tabs below represent the unique congressional sessions as collected by the U.S. Census Bureau through the Redistricting Data Program. Each tab contains information specific to that session's boundary collection along with other relevant products generated in support of any changes. Typically, new products are generated only when changes to congressional districts are reported between sessions. Any changes to congressional plans are submitted to the Census Bureau by non-partisan state liaisons, identified by the governor and legislative leadership of each state at the beginning of each decade's Redistricting Data Program. Once these plans are processed and inserted into the MAF/TIGER database, the Census Bureau generates verification materials for each state to review and certify as accurate. Any reported changes to the verification materials were incorporated into these final products.
Data Products
110th Congressional District Summary File and Demographic Profile
Census 2000 data tabulated for the 110th Congressional Districts is available in the 110th Congressional District Summary File and the 110th Congressional District Demographic Profile. The Demographic Profile is available at data.census.gov. The Summary File is available on our FTP site or at data.census.gov.
To access the data on data.census.gov, type type "110th CD" in the search bar to see a list of tables from the 110th Congressional District Demographic Profile and Summary File. Use the filters to refine your search to a the specific geography, table, or topic if desired.
To access the data on the FTP site, select the 110_Congressional_Districts folder. There are also folders on the site containing Census 2000 data tabulated for the 108th and 109th Congressional Districts.
Geographic Products
TIGER/Line Shapefiles
TIGER/Line Shapefiles are available for the following congressional districts prior to the 113th:
- 110th (2007 and 2008 TIGER/Line)
- 111th ( 2009 and 2010 TIGER/Line)
- 112th (2011-2013 TIGER/Line)
Spatial files for some earlier congressional districts are also available in TIGER/Line ACSII format. Note that there were no changes to congressional district boundaries between the 109th and the 112th Congressional sessions, except for in Georgia and Texas where there were changes between the 109th and 110th Congresses.
Congressional District Maps
The congressional district map suites include three map types (national, state-based, and congressional district-based) that depict the congressional districts in effect for these congressional sessions.
The congressional district boundaries are the same for the 109th, 110th, 111th, and 112th Congresses of the United States, except for in Georgia and Texas where there were changes between the 109th and 110th Congresses.
These maps depict congressional district boundaries in effect for the 108th Congress of the United States (January 2003-2005).
2000 Apportionment Results Map
Apportionment is the process of dividing the 435 memberships, or seats, in the House of Representatives among the 50 states. At the conclusion of each decennial census, the results are used to calculate the number of House memberships to which each state is entitled. These maps show the changes to the number of Congressional seats for each state between apportionment based on the 1990 Census and apportionment based on the 2000 Census.
