User Note About the Redesign of the CPS Detailed Table Package for School Enrollment in the United States: 2006

Excerpt

The Education and Social Stratification Branch has produced tables on school enrollment from the CPS since 1947. Beginning in 2006, the annual detailed table package was revised in response to the full implementation of the American Community Survey (ACS). The chart below outlines the changes between the 2005 and 2006 table packages and describes where omitted tables can be found. The chart also identifies related tables available from ACS, which are accessible through American FactFinder.

Some of the tables have been reorganized or simplified.  In some cases, the categories at the top of the table (the boxhead) were re-arranged for the purpose of clarification.  In addition, while Tables 1 and 2 continue to be repeated by race and Hispanic origin, some tables are no longer repeated (iterated) in this way.  Instead, race and Hispanic origin have been added as categories included among the rows of the table (referred to as the table stub).

The Census Bureau also provides additional data access options. The Data Ferret tool allows users to create custom tabulations from the CPS October Supplement from 1994 to present. Data files for CPS are available for download from the CPS website or can be obtained through the National Bureau of Economic Research or for a fee from Unicon Research Corporation.
