The release of the 2018 BDS data represents a full redesign of the program and reflects improvements and enhancements on several dimensions. These include a substantial expansion of the set of characteristics over which statistics are released. The most notable are statistics using a consistent NAICS industry classification for the entire time series from 1978-2018 at the sector, 3-digit and 4-digit level and geographic classification at the national, state, MSA and county levels.
