The U.S. Census Bureau is terminating the collection of data for the Current Industrial Report (CIR) program. In preparation for the FY 2012 budget, the Census Bureau did a comprehensive review of a number of programs. The review concluded it necessary to terminate and reduce some existing programs in order to secure funding for new programs and manage cyclical increases for other data collection programs. The Census Bureau consulted with key federal data users on relative program priorities and specifically about the consequences of terminating the CIR program. While few data users wanted to eliminate this existing data source, the availability of manufacturing data from the Annual Survey of Manufactures and the 5-year Economic Census, help mitigate the loss of the CIR data products
