Error in the 2008 to 2011 ACS Multi-Year Aggregate and Mean Income Deficit for Unrelated Individuals Estimates in B17008 and S1701

The U.S. Census Bureau identified a processing error in the tabulation of aggregate income deficit and mean income deficit for unrelated individuals for the following datasets:

  • 2006-2008 ACS 3-year estimates
  • 2007-2009 ACS 3-year estimates
  • 2005-2009 ACS 5-year estimates
  • 2006-2010 ACS 5-year estimates
  • 2006-2010 ACS 5-year Selected Population Tables (B17008 only)
  • 2006-2010 ACS 5-year American Indian Alaska Native Tables (B17008 only)
  • 2007-2011 ACS 5-year estimates

As a result, detailed table B17008 (Aggregate Income Deficit (Dollars) in the Past 12 Months of Unrelated Individuals by Sex) and subject table S1701 (Poverty Status in the Past 12 Months) have been removed for the affected datasets on American FactFinder beginning April 26, 2016.

The error was corrected beginning in data year 2010 of 3-year and 2012 for 5-year estimates.  There were no errors in the processing of the 1-year aggregate or mean income deficit, and there were no errors in the processing of aggregate or mean income deficit for families in either the single or the multi-year files.  Neither the 1-year or 5-year PUMS files were affected.
