Corrected Estimates for Hawaii Geographies in the EEO Tabulation 2006-2010

Original Revised Date: March 19, 2013.

Issue 1

On June 13, 2013, the Census Bureau corrected and re-released tables EEO-ALL01R and EEO-ALL01W from the EEO Tabulation 2006-2010.

Previous note about this error was posted March 19, 2013 (see below).

Issue 2

Also on the same day, the Census Bureau corrected and re-released the following twelve tables from the EEO Tabulation 2006-2010:

EEO-ALL07W-N1, EEO-ALL07W-N2, EEO-ALL07W-P1, EEO-ALL07W-P2, EEO-CIT07W-N1, EEO-CIT07W-N2, EEO-CIT07W-P1, EEO-CIT07W-P2, EEO-NCIT07W-N1, EEO-NCIT07W-N2, EEO-NCIT07W-P1, and EEO-NCIT07W-P2.

For table EEO-ALL07W-P2, the Census Bureau identified errors for geographies in Hawaii only. An incorrect percentage was displayed for the data row "Total, all education levels--Total, all ages--Total, both sexes" for the following three race and ethnicity categories:

  • Not Hispanic or Latino, Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander and Asian
  • Not Hispanic or Latino, Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander, Asian, and White
  • Balance of not Hispanic or Latino (includes the balance of non-Hispanic individuals who reported multiple races or reported Some Other Race alone)

The specification of the percentages in these cells was incorrect. This error occurred for all commuting flows in the table for Hawaii geographies. The percentages for other lines in this table were correct for other race and ethnicity categories. (The number estimates for these three data cells were correct on Table EEO-ALL07W-N2).

For all twelve '07W' tables, there was a computing or server error resulting in some Hawaii geographies where the 'N2' and 'P2' tables had a different number of lines/commuting flows and/or where 'N1' and 'P1' tables were absent when the 'N2' and 'P2' tables had data. This error occurred only for some Hawaii geographies.

Error in Estimates for Hawaii Geographies in the EEO Tabulation 2006-2010

The Census Bureau has identified errors in the EEO Tabulation 2006-2010 estimates of the number of people with the following four race and ethnicity categories: not Hispanic or Latino, Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander and White; not Hispanic or Latino, Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander and Asian; not Hispanic or Latino, Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander, Asian, and White; and Balance of not Hispanic or Latino, which includes the balance of non-Hispanic individuals who reported multiple races or reported Some Other Race alone. The specification of the estimates referred to an invalid base reference table, resulting in an estimate of zero people in these categories. The percentages for these race and ethnicity categories are correct. These errors exist only on select tables for geographies in Hawaii, including tables EEO-ALL01R and EEO-ALL01W. Once available, we will update this note with the complete list of affected tables.

As a result, we plan to correct and re-release the tables containing these errors.
