Original Revised Date: January 17, 2013.
On March 4, 2013, the Census Bureau corrected and re-released the 2010 ACS 1-year PUMS files and the 2011 ACS 1-year PUMS files.
The 2008-2010 and 2009-2011 3-year PUMS files, and the 2006-2010 and 2007-2011 5-year PUMS files will not be re-released. The lists of corrected 2010 POWPUMA codes and corrected 2011 POWPUMA codes along with the record identifiers housing unit/GQ person serial number (SERIALNO) and person key (SPORDER) can be used to update the POWPUMA codes.
Previous note about this error was posted January 17, 2013 (see below).
Incorrect codes for place of work public use microdata areas (POWPUMAs) were assigned for persons who worked in Babylon town and Brookhaven town, Suffolk County, New York who did not work at home. These cases received a POWPUMA code of 02800, which normally consists of Steuben and Yates Counties in New York. The correct POWPUMA code for Brookhaven is 04392. The correct POWPUMA code for Babylon, as well as most towns in Suffolk County, is 04390. Cases where people worked at home (JWTR = 11) have the correct POWPUMA codes. This affects the 2010 and 2011 records in the 2010 and 2011 1-year PUMS, 2008-2010 and 2009-2011 3-year PUMS, and the 2006-2010 and 2007-2011 5-year PUMS files. The Census Bureau is evaluating the feasibility of correcting these files and will update this note once a decision is made.
