What is the Puerto Rico Community Survey?

The Puerto Rico Community Survey provides data every year -- giving communities the current information they need to manage change. It is part of the Census Bureau's American Community Survey, customized for Puerto Rico.

The form is produced in Spanish and English. Survey results are used to help make sure that your community gets a fair share of federal funds.

To help Puerto Rico and municipal leaders, we ask about:

  • age
  • sex
  • race
  • family & relationships
  • income and benefits
  • health insurance
  • education
  • veteran status
  • disabilities
  • where you work & how you get there
  • where you live & how much you pay for some essentials

How is the Puerto Rico Community Survey Different from the American Community Survey?

Though the Puerto Rico Community Survey is part of the American Community Survey, there are differences amongst the surveys in phrasing and terminology. To read a comparison between the American Community Survey and the Puerto Rico Community Survey, download the comparison factsheet.

Why did I get a Puerto Rico Community Survey?

Your address was selected as a part of a sample and represents thousands of other households like yours. To produce the best statistics, we have to include all the addresses selected for the sample.

What is the Puerto Rico Community Survey?

Do I have to answer these questions?

Yes. You are legally obligated to answer all the questions, as accurately as you can.

Your answers are important. As part of a sample, you represent many other people living in Puerto Rico.

How do I benefit?

The information that the Census Bureau collects helps to determine how federal funding is spent on infrastructure and services. Your answers help the federal government, Puerto Rico and municipal leaders make decisions about new highways, schools, hospitals, offices, community centers, and emergency services.
