American Community Survey

The Older Population in Rural America: 2012-2016

This report uses 2012-2016 American Community Survey five-year estimates to study the population 65 years old and over in rural America relative to their urban counterparts. This research looks at the demographic (sex, age, race and Hispanic origin), social (living arrangements, marital status, educational attainment and disability status), economic (employment status, income, poverty status and health insurance), and geographic characteristics of older Americans. (Tentatively scheduled for release in June 30.)

The Older Foreign-Born Population in the United States: 2012-2016

This report describes the foreign-born population 65 years and older in the United States using data from the 2012-2016 American Community Survey. The study examines population size and geographic distribution, social and demographic characteristics (sex, age, race and Hispanic origin, country and region of birth, year of entry, citizenship status, language spoken at home, marital status, educational attainment, disability status, and living arrangements), and economic characteristics (homeownership, labor force participation, poverty status, health insurance coverage and income). (Tentatively scheduled for release in July).

Current Population Survey Fertility Table Package

The U.S. Census Bureau will release the 2018 Current Population Survey fertility table package, which includes fertility data for women ages 15 to 50. The tables show fertility measures such as childlessness and children ever born to women by demographic characteristics. (Tentatively scheduled for release in June.)

Net Worth of Households: 2015

This brief uses the Survey of Income and Program Participation (SIPP) to examine household net worth in 2015 and compares it with net worth in 2014. Examples of assets discussed in the brief are home equity, retirement accounts, vehicle equity, stocks, and assets at financial institutions. (Tentatively scheduled for release in July.)

Business Formation Statistics

The Business Formation Statistics (BFS) provide timely and high‐frequency data on business applications and employer business formations on a quarterly basis. The data are available nationally, regionally, and by individual states from the third quarter of 2004 onwards. For more information on BFS, visit <>. (Tentatively scheduled for release in June.)

2017 Nonemployer Statistics

This annual series provides subnational economic data for businesses that have no paid employees and are subject to federal income tax. The data consists of the number of businesses and total receipts by industry. (Tentatively scheduled for release June 27.)

Annual Survey of Public Pensions: 2018

The Annual Survey of Public Pensions provides a comprehensive look at the financial activity of the nation’s state and locally administered defined benefit pension systems, including cash and investment holdings, receipts, payments, pension obligations and membership information. Statistics are available at the national level and for individual states. State and Locally Administered Defined Benefits data will also be released. (Tentatively scheduled for release June 27.)

Quarterly Survey of Public Pensions: ­First Quarter 2019

The Quarterly Survey of Public Pensions is a quarterly survey that provides national summary data on the revenues, expenditures and composition of assets of the largest defined benefit public employee pension systems for state and local governments. This survey currently consists of a panel of 100 pension systems, which comprise 88.4% of financial activity among such entities, based on the 2012 Census of Governments. (Scheduled for release June 27.)

Characteristics of New Housing: 2018

Using data collected by the U.S. Census Bureau’s Survey of Construction, which is jointly funded by the Department of Housing and Urban Development, this report provides annual statistics on the characteristics of new privately owned residential structures by census region. The report includes characteristics such as the number of bedrooms and bathrooms, the location of the laundry, presence of homeowner’s association, the buyer’s source of financing, and the structure’s square footage. (Scheduled for release July 1.)

Anniversary of Americans With Disabilities Act (July)

To commemorate the July 26, 1990, signing of the Americans With Disabilities Act into law, the Census Bureau presents a wide array of statistical information about people with disabilities. (Tentatively scheduled for release in June.)

Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15-Oct. 15)

During this monthlong observance, our nation celebrates the culture and traditions of U.S. residents who trace their roots to Spain, Mexico and the Spanish-speaking nations of Central America, South America and the Caribbean. The Census Bureau joins in the celebration with this fact sheet presenting a range of updated statistics describing the demographic state of the nation’s Latino population. (Tentatively scheduled for release in July.)

June 20 — The nation as a whole continues to grow older with the median age increasing to 38.2 years in 2018, up from 37.2 years in 2010. The pace of this aging is different across race and ethnicity groups, according to new 2018 Population Estimates by demographic characteristics for the nation, states and counties, released by the U.S. Census Bureau. Wealth, Asset Ownership, and Debt of Households Detailed Tables: 2015

June 14 — These tables present estimates of wealth unique to the U.S. Census Bureau. The tables contain nationally representative statistics for the entire United States and for select demographic and socio-economic subgroups. The data source is the Survey of Income and Program Participation, 2014 Panel, Wave 3.

Men’s Fertility and Fatherhood: 2014

June 13 — For the first time, the Census Bureau  released data on the fertility of men in the United States. Data in this report include the demographics and educational attainment of fathers, and information about the ways men father. Data come from the 2014 Survey of Income and Program Participation.

2018 Annual Survey of Public Employment and Payroll

June 20 — These statistics provide a comprehensive look at the employment of the nation’s state and local governments. The survey provides state and local government data on full- and part-time employment, full-time equivalent employment, and payroll statistics by governmental function.

Public employment and payroll data are used by federal, state and local governments and educational and research organizations for a variety of activities such as the development of the government component of the gross domestic product and for comparative studies. 

Annual Building Permits

June 20 — Final estimates for the 2018 housing units authorized by building permits at the national, state and local level are now available for the United States and by census region, census division, state, metropolitan area, county, and permit-issuing place.

Center for Economic Studies and Research Data Centers Research Report: 2018

June 20 — This annual report highlights the Center for Economic Studies’ research, publications, data releases and other accomplishments, including news on the Federal Statistical Research Data Centers program. This year’s edition features chapters about two newly launched data products: Business Formation Statistics and the Opportunity Atlas.

Quarterly Summary of State and Local Government Tax Revenues: 1st Quarter 2019

June 18 — The summary provides quarterly estimates of state and local government tax revenue at a national level, as well as detailed tax revenue data for individual states. This report produces three tables: Tables 1 and 2 include income and sales tax data and Table 3 provides tax collections by state.
