Census Bureau Releases Technical Notes on Select Topics in International Censuses

The U.S. Census Bureau is releasing a series of technical notes on Select Topics in International Censuses. Each note highlights a new subject, method or operation relevant to census planners in middle- to low-income countries. New topics include: Measuring Fertility, Measuring Migration and Integrated Data Collection. (Tentatively scheduled for release in February).

2020 Census

Save the Date: Census Bureau to Host 2020 Census News Conference

One year out from Census Day 2020, the U.S. Census Bureau will host a 2020 Census news conference on April 1, 2019. Census Bureau Director Dr. Steven Dillingham will brief the public on the status of operations and what they can do to help ensure a complete and accurate count in their community. In addition, the Census Bureau will unveil the 2020 Census communications campaign tagline. (Tentatively scheduled for release April 1.)

American Community Survey

2012-2016 Older Population in Rural America

This report uses 2012-2016 American Community Survey five-year estimates to study the population 65 years and over in rural America relative to their urban counterparts. This research looks at the demographic (sex, age, race and Hispanic origin), social (living arrangements, marital status, educational attainment and disability status), economic (employment status, income, poverty status and health insurance), and geographic characteristics of older Americans. (Tentatively scheduled for release in March/April.)

Educational Attainment in the United States: 2018

This report and table package provides Current Population Survey statistics on educational attainment by demographic characteristics, such as age, sex, race and Hispanic origin. It also includes detailed information, including charts and graphs on years of school completed and shows the level of education adults have completed. (Scheduled for release Feb. 19.)

County, Puerto Rico Municipio, and Metropolitan and Micropolitan Statistical Area Population Estimates: July 1, 2018

Internet tables and detailed downloadable files will show annual population estimates, rankings and components of change for County, Puerto Rico Municipio, Metropolitan and Micropolitan Statistical Area since the 2010 Census. (Updated Release Schedule for embargo starting April 16 for public release on April 18.)

2017 Annual Wholesale Trade Survey

The U.S. Census Bureau will release Annual Wholesale Trade Survey data for 2017. Data are released at the national level for agents, brokers and merchant wholesalers. Topics include sales, inventories, e-commerce, operating expenses, purchases and commissions. This year’s release also includes detailed operating expenses and sales tax data collected and released every five years. (Tentatively scheduled for release March 6.)

Statistics of United States Businesses (Table 6)

These data include number of establishments and corresponding employment change for births, deaths, expansions and contractions from 2014 to 2015. The data are presented by state, industry and enterprise employment size. (Tentatively scheduled for release March 15.)

National African-American History Month: February

To commemorate and celebrate the contributions to our nation made by people of African descent, the Census Bureau presents a collection of demographic and economic statistics about the black community. (Scheduled for release in February.)

Irish-American Heritage Month (March) and St. Patrick’s Day (March 17)

You’ll find informative data worth its weight in gold on Irish-Americans in this edition of Facts for Features. It includes statistical information from the Census Bureau’s demographic and economic subject areas on the nation’s Irish-American population and other facets of this celebration of all things Irish. (Scheduled for release March 5.)

Asian-American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month: May 2019

This month-long observance of Asian-Americans and Pacific Islanders started more than 25 years ago. We celebrate their growing contributions to our nation with a host of statistical information on this group. Statistics are included for the Asian as well as the Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander populations covering demographics and businesses. (Tentative schedule for release March 14.)

Women’s History Month: March 2019

In commemoration of this annual observance highlighting and celebrating the varied and historic accomplishments of women, this edition provides statistical information on topics such as earnings, education, business ownership, voting, occupations, military service and marriage. (Scheduled for release in March.)

American Community Survey

Census Bureau Releases the 2013-2017 American Community Survey Public Use Microdata Sample and Variance Replicate Tables

Feb. 7 — The U.S. Census Bureau released the 2013-2017 American Community Survey Public Use Microdata Sample and the 2013-2017 variance replicate tables. The Public Use Microdata Sample files provide a 5 percent sample of the U.S. population to users to create their own tabulations. The Variance Replicate Tables allow users to calculate margins of error when aggregating data within a table or between geographies.

National, State and Puerto Rico Total Population Estimates on American FactFinder

Feb. 14 — Annual estimates of the resident population: April 1, 2010, to July 1, 2018, are available for the nation, States and Puerto Rico through American FactFinder. (Data available Feb. 14.) The Intersectionality of Sex, Race and Ethnicity in the STEM Workforce

Feb. 7 — This working paper and detailed table describe the demographic and labor force characteristics of the STEM workforce by sex, race and Hispanic origin. Findings highlight the different occupational pathways for workers with science and engineering bachelor’s degrees.

U.S. Census Bureau Releases Revised Economic Indicator Calendar

Feb. 6 — The U.S. Census Bureau announced updates to the 2019 economic indicator release schedule in coordination with other agencies and the Office of Management and Budget.

U.S. Census Bureau Streamlines Reporting for Retailers

Feb. 5 — The U.S. Census Bureau announced an agreement with the NPD Group to make reporting data more convenient, timely and cost-effective for participating retailers. The third-party data provider will deliver regular data feeds to the Census Bureau’s monthly retail programs. The streamlined process will deliver data quicker and with more detail.
