2014 Product Calendar

The Census Bureau has posted anticipated release dates for each regular and recurring statistical product expected to be released in 2014. The products are listed in the Census Bureau's online product calendar, which will be updated as needed throughout the year.

Census Day, 2014 Census Test

The Census Bureau will provide an update on the 2014 Census Test and plans for a cost-effective 2020 Census. The 2014 Census Test is being conducted in parts of Washington, D.C., and Montgomery County, Md. To conduct the test, the Census Bureau is hiring 1,000 temporary field staff; prospective job applicants can call 1-888-480-1639. 2014 Census Test participants with questions about the online or paper questionnaire assistance can call 1-866-226-2836. (Scheduled for release July 1.)


Changes in Areas with Concentrated Poverty: 2000 to 2010

Uses data from the 2000 Census and the 2008-2012 American Community Survey to analyze changes in the spatial distribution and socio-economic characteristics of people living in "poverty areas" (i.e., any census tracts with a poverty rate of 20 percent of more). (Scheduled for release June 30.)

65+ in the United States: 2010

This report analyzes demographic and socio-economic characteristics for the 65-and-older population. It updates trends for a range of topics, including geographic distribution, longevity, health, poverty, work and retirement. Data used in this report are from the 2010 Census and nationally representative surveys, such as the Current Population Survey, American Community Survey and National Health Interview Survey. (Scheduled for release June 30.)

Fertility of Women in the United States: 2012

This report uses data from the 2012 American Community Survey and the 2012 Current Population Survey. It examines women's marital status at the time of their first births, the completed fertility of women up to age 50 and the fertility patterns of young women. Fertility patterns are shown by race, ethnicity, age, citizenship and employment status, as well as state of residence. (Scheduled for release July 8.)

Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Degrees

Tables highlighting both STEM and non-STEM fields of degree, occupation, unemployment and median earnings by sex, race and Hispanic origin. The tables also include state level STEM occupation information. An interactive graphic will explore the relationship between STEM college majors and STEM employment. (Scheduled for release July 10.)


2012 Economic Census Industry Series: Breweries; Wineries; and Beer, Wine, and Distilled Alcoholic Beverage Merchant Wholesalers

Three more in a series of national-level data files on specific industries to be released through February 2015. The files provide data on the number of establishments, revenue, payroll, number of employees, value of product line sales and other data items for these three industries. (Schedule for release July 1.)

2012 Economic Census Industry Series: First Wholesale and Retail Trade Data

These are the first in a series of national-level data files on the wholesale and retail trade sectors of the U.S. economy. The files provide data on the number of establishments, shipments, payroll, number of employees, value of product line sales and other data items by industry. The first industries to be released include gasoline stations, and alcoholic beverages and tobacco products. (Scheduled for release July 1.)

2012 Economic Census of Island Areas: Geographic Area Series for the U.S. Virgin Islands

Contains data on the number of business establishments, sales, payroll and number of employees for the U.S Virgin Islands — a U.S. territory in the Caribbean. Statistics are shown by two- through five-digits NAICS sector. (Scheduled for release July 15.)

2012 Economic Census Industry Series: Household Cooking Appliance Manufacturing; Household Refrigerator and Home Freezer Manufacturing; Other Major Household Appliance Manufacturing; and Small Electrical Appliance Manufacturing

Four more in a series of national-level data files on specific industries to be released through February 2015. The files provide data on the number of establishments, revenue, payroll, number of employees, value of product line sales and other data items for these four industries. (Scheduled for release in July.)

2012 Economic Census Industry Series

Continuing on a flow basis through February 2015, this series contains national-level statistics from the twice-a-decade economic census for specific industries on the number of employees and establishments, payroll and total revenues. It also includes detailed statistics on the product lines sold or services provided by businesses. For a listing of industries for which data have been released over the last two weeks, see <>.

These free sessions, lasting about 60 to 90 minutes, show how to use census databases and mapping tools, find demographic and economic statistics at a local or national level and provide quick links for answers to frequently asked questions about accessing statistics.

Census Bureau Adds Kenneth Simonson and Jack Levis to Census Scientific Advisory Committee

June 23 — Two new members joined the Census Scientific Advisory Committee. Kenneth Simonson — the Associated General Contractors of America's chief economist — and Jack Levis — the director of process management at United Parcel Service — will join other subject-matter experts in advising the Census Bureau director on a wide range of variables that affect the cost, accuracy and implementation of the Census Bureau's programs and surveys, including the once-a-decade census. Census Bureau Emergency Management Mapping Tool Adds Improvements

June 24 — The U.S. Census Bureau released updates to the OnTheMap for Emergency Management tool. The public data tool provides an intuitive Web-based interface for viewing the potential effects of disasters on the U.S. workforce and population. Users can easily retrieve reports containing detailed workforce, population and housing characteristics for hurricanes, floods, wildfires, winter storms and federal disaster declaration areas. Estimates of National, State and County Population by Age, Sex, Race and Hispanic Origin: July 1, 2013

June 26 — Is your county aging or becoming more youthful? Does any particular group - or racial and ethnic minorities collectively - comprise the majority of residents there? Are there states and counties that have more men than women? Each of these questions are answered by the national-, state- and county-level population estimates cross-tabulated by these demographic characteristics. Quarterly Survey of Public Pensions: First Quarter 2014

June 26 — This quarterly survey provides national summary statistics on the revenues, expenditures and composition of assets of the 100 largest state and local public employee retirement systems in the United States. These 100 systems comprise 89.4 percent of financial activity among such entities, based on the 2007 Census of Governments. This survey presents the most current statistics about investment decisions by state and local public employee retirement systems, which are among the largest types of institutional investors in the U.S. financial markets. These statistical tables are published three months after each calendar quarter and show national financial transactions and trends for the past five years. Internet address: <>.

Summary of State and Local Government Tax Revenue: 1st Quarter 2014

June 24 — The U.S. Census Bureau released the first quarter of tax revenue statistics on property, sales, license, income and other taxes. Statistics are shown for individual state governments as well as national estimates of select state and local taxes, including 12-month calculations. 2012 Economic Census Industry Series: Pipeline Transportation

June 17 — The U.S. Census Bureau released additional data from the 2012 Economic Census Industry Series reports, including new data for the transportation sector on pipeline transportation. This data series publishes national statistics for detailed industries as well as information on the product lines sold by or services provided by businesses. The economic census is conducted every five years and provides a comprehensive and detailed profile of the U.S. economy, covering millions of businesses representing more than 1,000 industries and providing unique portraits of American industries and local communities. 50th Anniversary of Civil Rights Act

June 26 — To mark the 50th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act, the Census Bureau will release a compilation of facts for the different race groups from around 1964 to present. Internet address: <>.

June 25 — On this day in 1776, the Declaration of Independence was approved by the Continental Congress, setting the 13 colonies on the road to freedom as a sovereign nation.
