Paul Mackun
Geographer, U.S. Census Bureau
Paul Mackun is a geographer with the Population Distribution Branch in the Population Division, and is the project manager for the metropolitan and micropolitan statistical areas program. In this capacity, he serves as a liaison with the Office of Management and Budget, provides guidance on the uses of metro and micro areas, oversees production of products for metro and micro areas, and conducts research on geographic classifications and population trends.
He has authored and co-authored several Census Bureau publications, including reports on metro and micro areas, metro area central and outlying counties, and decennial population change. In 2001, he received the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Bronze Medal Award.
Mackun received his doctorate in geography from the University at Buffalo.
