Dr. Joe Johnson

Chief Economist and Director, Office of Economic Research

Joe is the Chief Economist and Director of Economic Research in the Office of Advocacy. In his position of Director he oversees the research being conducted both internally and externally through contracts. He also works in the area of economic impacts on small business from federal government regulation. Although he works on many regulatory issues, he specializes in environmental and workplace regulation. Before joining the Office of Advocacy, Joe worked in economic consulting and as an economist at the Mercatus Center in Arlington, Virginia. He graduated from George Mason University with a Ph.D. in economics in 2001, where he conducted research in public finance and public choice economics. He has published research in these fields, as well as in regulatory economics.
