Countdown to the 2010 Census: Census Bureau Director to Brief Media on Language Assistance Program

What:
With Census Day -- April 1, 2010 -- less than six months away, U.S. Census Bureau Director Robert M. Groves will lead a media briefing with San Francisco city officials and community advocates on the Census Bureau's language assistance efforts and related strategies to ensure a full and accurate count in the 2010 Census.

The 2010 Census questionnaire will be one of the shortest ever -- there are only 10 questions, requiring about 10 minutes to complete. Census data are used to apportion congressional seats to states, to distribute more than $400 billion in federal funds to local, state and tribal governments each year, and to make decisions about what community services to provide.

Who:
Robert M. Groves, director, U.S. Census Bureau
David Chiu, president, Board of Supervisors, City and County of San Francisco
