Demographic and Housing Characteristics Data Available for 119th Congress

Press Release Number: CB24-CN.26

DEC. 5, 2024 – The U.S. Census Bureau today released the 2020 Census 119th Congressional District Summary File. The file updates tables previously released as part of the 2020 Census Demographic and Housing Characteristics File to reflect the 119th congressional districts and 2024 state legislative districts in effect for the November 2024 elections.

  • The file incorporates congressional district boundary changes reported by these five states:
    • Alabama
    • Georgia
    • Louisiana
    • New York
    • North Carolina
  • It also incorporates state legislative district boundary changes for these 11 states:
    • Georgia
    • Michigan
    • Minnesota
    • Montana
    • New York
    • North Carolina
    • North Dakota
    • Ohio
    • South Carolina
    • Washington
    • Wisconsin
  • The tables for other states remain the same as those published in the 2020 Census 118th Congressional District Summary File.

The Census Bureau retabulates census data for each congressional session. If a state reports changes, the Census Bureau updates the tables using the new boundaries. If no changes for a session are reported, the data tables remain the same for that state.

This is the first time in recent decades the Census Bureau has processed the updates and published the updated summary file for the new Congress before its session begins. Building on this improved schedule, the Census Bureau plans to continue providing updated summary files in advance of future congressional sessions.
