U.S. Census Bureau Data Help Hurricane Ian Efforts

OCT. 3, 2022 — Demographic and economic data from the U.S. Census Bureau are available on the areas impacted by Hurricane Ian.

Data tools, such as OnTheMap for Emergency Management, offer demographic data on real-time emergency event areas, comprehensive reports, a historical event archive plus flexible analyses and visualizations. Census Business Builder: Regional Analyst Edition offers users the ability to create a region and analyze comprehensive demographic/economic data in a map or report.

Additionally, My Community Explorer (MCE) is a new tool designed to help users identify underserved communities. MCE offers an interactive map-based interface where users can view Community Resilience Estimates, American Community Survey data and business variables (employer and nonemployer businesses) from County Business Patterns and Nonemployer Statistics. Business variables include the total number of businesses, total number of employees and average annual payroll.

The Census Bureau produces timely local demographic and economic data that are important to emergency management efforts for Hurricane Ian’s potentially affected areas.
