Census Bureau Releases New Technical Note on Select Topics in International Censuses

Press Release Number CB21–TPS.150

Note Now Available for Disaster Statistics and Censuses

DEC. 16, 2021 — The U.S. Census Bureau today released a new technical note on disaster statistics and censuses as part of the Select Topics in International Censuses series. This technical note highlights the links between census data and strategies for disaster risk reduction. It provides National Statistical Offices (NSOs) with information on how their census data collection and dissemination activities support the overall statistical system in helping countries identify and mitigate risk for vulnerable populations.

Each technical note in this series highlights a new subject, method or operation relevant to census planners in middle- to low-income countries. These notes complement the U.N. Principles and Recommendations on Population and Housing Censuses by describing certain topics in more detail. Sponsored by the U.S. Agency for International Development, the Select Topics in International Censuses series is designed to help staff in NSOs address some of the significant issues in the 2020 round of censuses.

Other technical notes recently released include:

Measuring Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) in a Census

This technical note discusses advances in the measurement and reporting of WASH and provides actionable guidance for NSO experts as they prepare their census questionnaire and dissemination materials.

Evaluating a Pilot Electronic Census

This technical note provides guidance for NSOs on how to evaluate pilot censuses and benefit from lessons learned, with a special emphasis on electronic censuses using Computer-Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI).

Linking Population and Housing Censuses to the Agricultural Censuses
