Census Bureau Releases New Brief on Childhood Disability

MARCH 25, 2021 — The U.S. Census Bureau today released a new brief, Childhood Disability in the United States: 2019, describing rates and patterns of childhood disability in the United States.
The brief, based on estimates from the Census Bureau’s 2008 and 2019 American Community Surveys, provides information on the prevalence of disability among children in 2019 and how this compares to 2008. The brief also discusses differences in disability rates by demographic and socioeconomic characteristics, as well as by region and state.
The concept of childhood disability encompasses children with various physical, mental and/or emotional conditions that pose limitations to certain activities or tasks.
