One Week Before Next Milestone in 2018 Census Test

Press Release Number CB18-TPS.24

MAY 2, 2018 — Residents have one more week to respond to the 2018 Census Test taking place in Providence County, R.I. Census takers will begin to follow up with households that have not responded starting May 9 as part of the Nonresponse Followup operation.

This test plays a critical role in ensuring that the Census Bureau’s systems, operations and procedures are in place in advance of the 2020 Census.

“Providence County provides an ideal environment for the test because its demographics mirror those of the nation,” said Jeff Behler, director of the Census Bureau’s New York Regional Office. “You can help by responding online, by phone or by mail if you don’t have internet access. You can also stop by any one of 30 U.S. Post Offices through July 31 to complete your form using a kiosk."

The census takers will be using smartphones to guide them to the assigned housing units and to collect census test information.

For more information, please visit the 2018 Census Test page, or the Census Bureau’s Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn pages.
