Census Bureau Releases New Report on the Dynamics of Economic Well-Being

Press Release Number CB17-TPS.57

JULY 6, 2017 — Today the U.S. Census Bureau released a new report on the Dynamics of Economic Well-Being: Fluctuations in the U.S. Income Distribution: 2009-2012 that highlights changes in annual household income by selected demographic characteristics of the householder.

This report takes advantage of the Survey of Income and Program Participation’s longitudinal design that collected detailed monthly information from individuals age 15 and older on:

  • Wages and salaries.
  • Pensions.
  • Cash and in-kind benefits received from social welfare and insurance programs.
  • Income generated from returns to property, assets and holdings.

The report uses data from Waves 2 through 14 of the survey’s 2008 panel, which covered the years 2009-2012.

The Census Bureau will release additional Survey of Income and Program Participation briefs from the 2014 survey panel that highlights other relevant topics over the coming months. Previously released briefs, reports and table packages from the Survey of Income and Program Participation are available on the program webpage.
