From flowers, to confectionary products, to stuffed animals and more, consumers spent millions of dollars worldwide to celebrate Valentine’s Day, making it one of the largest retail shopping days of the year. In the United States, Valentine’s Day continues to have mass appeal among consumers and retailers alike. Let’s take a look to see which of your favorite Valentine’s Day gifts was imported the most.
In 2018, the United States imported $12.6 million in roses, $412.7 billion in cocoa confectionary goods, and $11.5 billion in stuffed animals.
Where did all the roses, chocolate and stuffed animals come from? The top countries that export these commodities to the United States are found in the tables below.
What you may not know is that this data comes from using the first six digits of the Schedule B number, also known as Schedule B subheadings. The subheading for roses is 0602.40 “Roses, Grafted or Not;” the cocoa confectionary subheading is 1806.32 “Chocolate & Other Cocoa Preps…;” and the stuffed animals subheading is 9503.00 “Tricycles, scooters, pedal cars and similar wheeled toys; dolls...” For additional information on Schedule B numbers, please see the Finding Your Schedule B Number blog.
