Matthew Spence is senior advisor in the Population Division. His work focuses on the impact of disclosure avoidance on the demographics of special populations. He previously served as chief of the Foreign-Born Population Branch. He has worked on a variety of projects since joining the Census Bureau in 2011, including the 2011 Census of Governments and a congressionally- mandated report on Title I education spending.
Matt received a Bronze Medal for providing support related to the citizenship question on the 2020 Census and for managing the creation and analysis of demonstration data files on the 2020 Disclosure Avoidance System.
Matt received a master's degree in political science from the University of California, Los Angeles, in 2009 and a bachelor's degree in political science and economics from UC Berkeley in 2004.
