Child Trends

Dr. Kristin Anderson Moore is a Senior Scholar at Child Trends. She holds a Ph.D. in social psychology from the University of Michigan. She studies adolescent development, trends in youth and family well-being, positive youth development, adolescent sexual and contraceptive behavior, and the effects of public policies and poverty on children.

She has worked on conceptualizing and designing a number of surveys for children and youth, including the National Survey of Children’s Health and the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth. She has also worked to expand information on effective programs, implementation approaches, and rigorous evaluations, and to share this knowledge with practitioners, funders, journalists, and policymakers.

Dr. Moore established the Task Force on Effective Programs and Research at the National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy and was a co-founder of the International Society for Child Indicators; she also served as a member of the NICHD Advisory Council. Dr. Moore headed Child Trends as President from 1992 to 2006, before she chose to return to full-time research.

Dr. Moore was chosen to receive the 2018 Distinguished Career Award for the Practice of Sociology from the American Sociological Association. In 2013, she was chosen as a Fellow by the National Council on Family Relations. Dr. Moore has published more than 125 journal articles and books, as well as numerous research briefs, and brings more than 40 years of experience in designing, implementing, and conducting research and evaluations on families and children.
